There are not many names that are bigger in the poker industry than both Phil “Polarizing” Ivey and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom right now, with the former often being referred to as the best player in the world and the latter easily being one of the best online poker players around.
So you can imagine the excitement when both are found playing at the very same table, and going at it for big money.
Well, the two of them locked horns at the high stakes tables of Full Tilt Poker in a mammoth session that lasted twelve hours. They were playing at the $1,500/$3,000 8 Game tables and provided some intense poker action for all of the railbirds.
Blom Takes Early Lead
Blom pushed himself into a lead of around $170k during the first ninety minutes of play but he couldn’t hold Ivey back for long, as his opponent soon pulled back to about even before they were joined by another player at the table in “punting-peddler”.
By the time we had seen six hours of play Blom was again sitting with a good $100k plus score and was looking in good shape. However, that changed when “punting-peddler” left the table and again left them playing heads up.
Ivey Finishes Up Around $300k
Once there were just the two of them again was when Ivey started piling on the pressure and eventually put him up almost $500k. A spirited fight back from Blom reduced that deficit to just under $300k but he couldn’t quite do anymore.
Also, whilst Blom was playing against Ivey during the later stages of the session, he also decided to multi table and play against Isaac “luvtheWNBA” Haxton at the $500/$1,000 No Limit Holdem tables. Yet again he started well but couldn’t keep that up long enough before Haxton recouped those losses and actually finished that particular session with a $283k profit.
All in all, it was a pretty exciting day at the high stakes tables, though we certainly do hope there will be more to come between both Blom and Ivey.
