Valentine’s Day for many is all about celebrating their undying love for poker. Brushing aside kisses and roses the romance for the UKIPT entrants will instead be for cards and chips.
Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork opened its doors at mid-day for its €700-€70 Main Event with plenty of runners walking in for a chance to chase down part of the €250,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Players started with 15k in chips with the blinds changing every 60 minutes. Tomorrow a new set of runners will walk through the door for Day 2b of this event, but for today’s heart throbs it will be all about building up a chip stack that will help see them through the third day of the tournament when the Day 1a and Day 1b challengers hook up for Day 2.
The Main Event will run the course of 4 days before the final table is decided on Day 3. On the fifth day, the Main Event Final Table will be played down until only one remains on the felt with all the chips.
The UKIPT will also be hosting a ring of side of events that run alongside the Main Event. In fact the first one of these started yesterday in a €110 No Limit Hold’em 6-handed event with add-ons available.
There are also 2 satellites to the main event with one already played on the 13th of February and the second that will kick off today at 6pm. Both satellites have identical structures with an exciting €50-$5 No Limit Hold’em unlimited 6k re-buy Super Satellite where players will re-buy up until the fourth blind level where they have a final option to top up with 4k in chips.
As the Main Event runs event 9’s €2,150 No Limit Hold’em High Roller tournament will kick off on Sunday played at 8 handed tables with add-ons available at the break.
Before this, on the side players can save themselves the €2,150 buy-in to the high roller in a No Limit Hold’em 15 minute blind €100-€10 buy-in satellite. There are 2k unlimited re-buys available up to level 4 where players can top up their chip stacks with another 4k.
Aside from the big event and the satellites there is a deep stack No Limit side game where players will fight 15 minute blinds from the off while sitting down in a bid to increase their 15k starting stack. And for a change of scenery, as the UKIPT have doused this event with Texas Hold’em, many of the players will be delighted to known there is a Pot Limit Omaha event that is expected to pull in a fair few contenders from the crowd.
Buy-ins will set punters back a cool €200-€20 for 10,000 chips to hammer out their 4 card 6 hand Omaha whole cards.
This should be a fine few days of poker to look forward to and as the action unfolds we’ll keep you posted on any big names that turn up.
