Sometimes you barely notice a player, who somehow manages to amass a massive amount of chips throughout a day’s action, then you look over and you just wonder how they managed to do it. Today we had one of those situations with Hoi-Ting “Edmund” Lee, who did it on Day 1a of the Macau Poker Cup Championship Main Event.
There really was only one hand of note where he won a large amount of chips, which was at about the midpoint of the day, the rest of the time was just small pots after small pots which were not attracting too much attention.
Lee finished the day as the runaway chip leader with 119,175in the HK$20,000 being hosted at the Grand Waldo Entertainment Complex. The first flight of Day 1’s attendance stood at 89 players hitting the felt, meaning there needs to be a considerable improvement if they want to beat last year’s numbers.
The event carries a large prize pool guarantee of HK$4,500.000 though, so registrations are set to be much higher than Day 1a.
10 WSOP Bracelet Man Chan Eliminated Amongst Others!
Chan was easily the biggest name in the event, yet he struggled all day and eventually ran into Xibo Hu’s pocket queens whilst holding the Ac-10c and didn’t improve. Another of the bigger names was David Steicke, who had already won the opening event of this tournament.
He came out swinging as soon as he sat down and rapidly built a large stack, only to see it come down just as quickly as he had built it. He was joined on the rail by Tony Chang, Andrew Scott, Winfred Yu, Victor Chen and the aggressive Jacky Wang.
As the day came to conclusion we had seen seven levels played out and the field reduced to 40 who would be going into Day 2. Edmund Lee’s stack of 119,175 was the one to beat, and he was actually the player that eliminated the highly aggressive David Steicke after hitting the nut flush.
