You have to really feel for the guy. Connor Drinan suffered one of the most high profile and costly bad beats in poker after seeing his aces cracked by the aces of Cary Katz during the World Series of Poker ‘Big One For One Drop’.
Whilst it was an incredibly cruel way to bust out of any event, having it happen during one that requires a buy-in of a cool million must be absolutely heart wrenching. He had gone from having the potential to turn his million into more before having it taken away from him in one fell swoop.
What’s more, it happened in front of the cameras for all to see and the video of this hand has now gone viral with almost 6.5 million views already on YouTube. Whether people are just interested in witnessing this immense amount of bad fortune or feel great pleasure from watching the reaction of a man who is obviously dumbfounded and heartbroken is unclear but it has certainly proved to be a popular video.
Take a look at the video where you can see that everybody feels bad for him, even his opponent Katz obviously feels uncomfortable with how he won the hand.
You can imagine the pain we are sure, but perhaps this is why the video has been so popular, the imagination of exactly how somebody must feel in this position.
One player that will probably be happy that this video has gone viral is Carter Gill. He was knocked out last year in the Main Event and much like this one, the video coverage of it was replayed over and over (limp wrist and all) on YouTube to the tune of 2 million views.
The Gill one in our opinion is a bit funnier, simply because of all the chat prior to his bad beat but simply due to the stakes of the game Drinan has managed to triple those views and the count is only going to increase. He could have potentially won as much as $15 million but instead lost his buy-in of $1 million, simply down to an outrageous bout of bad luck.
We just wonder who is going to be the fall guy for the next bad beat viral video at the 2015 World Series of Poker.
