EPT Barcelona Main Event Day 1a – Mizrachi Early Leader

Barcelona city

Yesterday was a memorable day on the European Poker Tour as the 100th Main Event of all time kicked off over in Barcelona. The event attracted a very impressive field of 475 players for the first Day 1a flight and saw them have to make an attempt at getting past eight levels and into Day 2.

279 of that field managed to do so and will now be waiting for the result of Day 1b to see who will be joining them into Day 2. The ones tha did not will now be consigned to playing any other events that take their fancy.

Topping the chip counts on Day 1 was Michael Mizrachi with 186,600, leading the likes of Marko Neumann and Bryn Kenney in the top ten. Also making it through were Dan Colman, Barny Boatman, Roberto Romanello, Shannon Shorr and PokerStars Team Pros Leo Margets, Mickey Peteresen, Johnny Lodden and Eugene Katchalov.

Whilst we had plenty of big names making it through we also had to see some of them leave empty handed as EPT Barcelona Super High Roller winner Olivier Busquet, Toby Lewis, Tom Middleton and Vanessa Selbst were among the eliminations on Day 1a.

With regards to Selbst, she really was not involved in the event for long. She only actually turned up to play during the third level and only managed to last half of it before being eliminated. Her aggressive style must have seen her drop a big chunk of her chips before her final hand when she lost the rest holding pocket queens against the Kc-8c of her opponent on a board of 5s-Kh-3s-Kd.

Those players will now move their attentions to some other events at the EPT Barcelona such as the High Roller.

The players that have done enough to progress will now have a day off as Day 1b plays out to discover who will be joining them on Day 2. The field is expected to be huge and full of the biggest names in the game to follow on from the success of the Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event which attracted the largest field in its history. Many of the big names prefer to enter on Day 1b, especially because many of them would have attended the EPT party last night.

The Current Top Ten

1st) Michael Mizrachi – 186,600

2nd) Charlie Combes – 172,400

3rd) Dmitry Yurasov – 163,100

8th) Andreas Eriksson – 139,000

9th) Bryn Kenney – 129,000

10th) Jose Goncalves Pinheiro – 122,000

That concludes the report for today but just us again tomorrow to discover how many of the expected huge field do enough to progress with the survivors of Day 1a into Day 2. That action starts at 12pm and will play another eight levels in the Casino Barcelona until we know exactly how many progress.
