Well poker in Barcelona seems to keep breaking records right now. After the PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour Barcelona became the biggest Freezeout event backed by the site, it seems that the record breaking craze has continued with the EPT Barcelona Main Event as well.
A huge field of 708 players converged on to the felt for Day 1b, bringing the total registrations for the event up to 1,226 and make it the largest EPT Main Event in Barcelona by more than 100 players. What’s more is that the registration is still open right up until the start of Day 2, which means there is a outside chance that this event could be the largest ever EPT Main Event (except the PCA) if it can get another 15 players.
Florian-Dimitrie Duta is the man that finished Day 1b with the best chip count after he bagged up 187,000 chips to put him 15,000 clear at the top. He lead a field on Day 1b that included the likes of Shannon Shorr, Christophe De Meulder, Victor Ramdin, David Benefield, Theo Jorgensen, Nacho Barbero, Johnny Lodden, Kevin MacPhee, Erik Seidel, Liv Boeree and Marvin Rettenmaier who all also progressed into Day 2.
Bagged 121,500 in @PokerStarsEPT Barcelona to end day 1. Average around 55k.

Though many of the biggest names managed to establish themselves into the mix for Day2, many others couldn’t quite achieve the same feat. This includes Mathias De Meulder, Jeff Rossiter, Lex Veldhuis, Steve Silverman, Mike McDonald, Daniel Negreanu and Chino Rheem, who will now have one last chance to buy back into the event before the start of Day 2 today.
