Day 1a at the PokerStars European Poker Tour London Main Event was an expected quiet affair for two reasons, the PokerStars EPT party and the fact that many players love to play in the PokerStars Sunday events online.
For those reasons there were 209 players that bought in on Day 1a, though a huge field is expected for Day 1b later on today. From those 209 it was an unknown that found his way to the top of the chip counts as the 21 year old Dhru Patel finished up with 241,000 chips. The player has never recorded a live cash but has given himself a very good start at achieving one here. He claimed a number of scalps throughout the day, none bigger than that of Erik Seidel.
He heads a top ten that includes a number of other unknowns, though Dan Smith and Matt Frankland had good days to finish in the top ten.
Of the notables that made it through into Day 2, there was Jake Cody, Theo Jorgensen, Marcin Horecki and Mike Watson.
Somehow ended day 1a with 55k with from 30k starting stack. A bit below average.

There were plenty that weren’t so lucky though as Leo Margets, Jonathan Duhamel, Johnny Lodden, Eugene Katchalov, Viktor Blom and Dan Shak were among the more notable of those that hit the rail. They were among a total of 103 that were sent packing on Day 1a, leaving them all looking for another tournament to take part in.
Day 1b will start at 12pm GMT today and it is expected that the field will be massive with the likes of Liv Boeree, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst and the newly crowned EPT London Super High Roller winner Martin Finger expected to be in attendance.
