Whilst the majority of poker players are hugely anticipating the European Poker Tour Barcelona, it seems that has helped the Estrellas Poker Tour no end, as many players have arrived early to Barcelona to get in this tournament as well.
It has now become the latest PokerStars backed event to become a record holder as the largest freezeout event in their history.
Day 1a brought in 675 players and Day 1b which was played out yesterday added to that with another 960 player’s minimum. That number is not the final figure either and could be even higher, but even at that amount it has at the very least 1,635 registrations which beats the previous best of 1,626 set at the UKIPT Nottingham.
The €1,100 Main Event will be playing out Day 2 a little later on today after the players had to survive the field on either Day 1a or Day 1b. The first flight saw Julien Gaston head the chip counts, whilst there were other big names such as Team PokerStars Pros Juan Manual Pastor and the ever likeable Rino Mathis all progressing.
Day 1b, which brought in the huge field of roughly 1,000 entrants saw far more eliminations, with last year’s winner Lorenzo Sabato and top Spanish female player Leo Margets both heading to the rail. Also amongst the eliminations were Kevin MacPhee, Tony Judet and PokerStars Team Pros Johnny Lodden and Vanessa Selbst.

There were some big names that did make it through though in Barcelona though such as Angel Guillen, Roberto Romanello and Marcin Horecki did just enough to progress into Day 2. The chip leader from the second flight was actually a Spanish player by the name of Gorka Gutierrez after bagging up 193,000 chips.
Made day 2 of #Estrellas with 48k which is going to be exactly 30BBs.
