Illegal Betting: Phua Among 8 Allegedly Arrested

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, regular high stakes cash and tournament player Paul Phua was arrested on the weekend along with seven others, for running an alleged World Cup betting operation whilst inside Caesars Palace.

Phua who is a wealthy Chinese businessman and the other Chinese nationals that were involved, were raided by the FBI across different locations on the Las Vegas strip after initially being thrown out of Caesars Palace.

Each of the eight were allegedly arrested and are now due to appear in court next Monday. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Phua is to be represented by David Chesnoff, the attorney that Phil Ivey used during his divorce case.

Paul Phua regularly plays high stakes online under the screen name of “MalACEsia” and also takes in many Super High Roller tournaments. He played in the WSOP ‘Big One For One Drop’ back in 2012 and has this year been recently seen taking part in the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo $100k Super High Roller where he in fact finished in 6th place for a payout of €385,000.
