As the Syrian civi war is raging and the US government is pondering its options, the Congress hearing was supposed to clarify matters. Among the senators who attended the meeting, there was also John McCain, but reporters caught him red-handed as he was playing poker on his iPhone.
Not surprising, the media was more than happy to ride this juicy little nugget and the senator was asked for comments. McCain was not intimidated by the questions and joked about the worst thing of his little poker adventure, claiming that he lost thousands in that game. While some of his colleagues and most of the media didn’t take this news lightly and were upset that a US senator is not taking serious matters seriously, there were plenty who chose to make fun instead.
David Letterman came up with a list of excuses John McCain could use to talk his way out of an uncomfortable interview. They were ranked in a top 10 and some of these excuses were pretty funny, much to the delight of the audience. Those who saw the senator commenting live on this matter, will probably agree that these imaginary excuses are not that far from the truth:
John Stewart didn’t lose the opportunity to make fun of the senator for playing poker during a congressional war hearing. For the TV host, it was particularly amusing to see how McCain reacted to criticism and how natural he was in coming up with explanations. Stewart went as far as to compile some of the senator’s reactions into a short Gif that makes him look ridiculous.
Perhaps the most amusing comments made in a TV show about McCain’s poker adventure belong to Conan who took a jab at the senator playing poker on his smart phone. The one minute long video depicts several congressmen engaged in a game of poker, all of them using mobile devices. The senator sits on a pair of aces and plays it aggressively, and although one of his colleagues has him beat on the flop and turn, McCain spikes a lucky ace on the river to win it all.
It is hard to believe that the media will let this issue vanish away anytime soon, because for many TV show hosts, McCain’s slip up is a gold mine!
