Macau Poker Cup – Record Event Reaches Day 3

Macau Poker Cup

Day 2 at the record breaking Macau Poker Cup has come to an end after the 223 survivors of the three opening day flights have again been cut down in size in rather dramatic fashion.

The three opening day flights brought in a combined field of 995 making it the largest Macau Poker Cup field ever beating the 891 that was set in this event last year. This field was created after 285 players bought into Day 1a, 294 for Day 1b and 313 on Day 1c. Despite those huge numbers only 223 of them did enough to come back here for Day 2.

The field was cut down even further on Day 2 as after less than five 60-minute levels there were just 77 players remaining. Leading that field is Lei Gao who started the day with the chip lead but then chipped himself up to 919,000 in tournament chips, giving him around a 150k advantage over Zhaojan Ruan in second place.

The bubble also burst on Day 2 as only the top 117 players would be paid out to in this event. This meant there would be 106 players leaving empty handed on the day, whilst the rest at least got a payout and made some profit on top. Among those that made the money but will not be going through to Day 3 were Aaron Lim, Ian Lister, Michael Mariakis and Wai Lun Wong.

Going into Day 3 were some bigger names too as Team PokerStars Pro Vivian Im, Ivan Zalac and Aditya Agarwal did enough on Day 2 to progress.

Join us tomorrow as this field is set to be cut down to just those fortunate enough to be playing it out on the final table in the hope of snagging that $2,010,000 first place payout.
