Poker is one of many hobbies Jason Mercier likes to partake in, but poker is also a job with a serious side to it, so what else is there for the superstar poker pro to dig his heels into?
It turns out Team PokerStars Pro, Mercier, enjoys playing basketball or at least he enjoys trying out a few trick shots. After what has been a few years of practicing this shot Mercier finally got four in a row, but unfortunately he only managed to get two completed shots on camera.

Mercier included the video of his final two trick shots on Instagram. Check it out for yourself below.
This isn’t the first time he’s been spotted playing basketball, as aside from poker it appears to be his favourite hobby. He’s a massive fan of US basketball team Miami Heat and an admirer of one of the latest and greatest stars in basketball today LeBron James, although Mercier is still adamant that Michael Jordan was the best player to have ever graced the basketball courts. Check out an interview he did explaining some details about his poker career, coin flips and his love for basketball.
Jason has been a sportsman from a young age regularly active playing primarily basketball, but he also dabbled in baseball and football (soccer as the US players would call the game). Jason was the youngest child in his family and so had plenty of competition to motivate him as well as giving him a great competitive nature that probably explains much of his success playing poker. That’s all thanks to having two brothers and an older sister to egg him on.
He is also academically brilliant as he won a scholarship for Florida Atlantic University. During his time there he discovered online poker and from there he really didn’t have any time to look back. After one year, Jason moved to finish his final two years of college at Broward Community College.
As life continued on for Mercier he discovered that he is a pretty good poker player online and by reaching Supernova Elite status he got himself into two PokerStars live events, the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo. That was it for Mercier and from there onwards as he won a seat into the EPT Sanremo, and from there he built up a poker career that all poker players out there envy.
