Poker in 2014 is finally underway after the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicked off with Day 1 of the Super High Roller. The opening day saw 45 players generate a total of 52 buy-ins; with that number set to increase further as the re-buy period is open right up until the start of Day 2.
Once the action had seen the players get through eight levels of play it was the German Martin Finger that led the field with 829,000 chips. He is leading the remaining 40 players and a star studded top ten that includes the likes of Philipp Gruissem, Isaac Haxton, Justin Bonomo and Mike McDonald.

Not surprisingly Guy Laliberte takes getting sucked out on in a SHR better than anyone I've ever seen. On an unrelated note I'm up to 400k

We had a total of 12 eliminations on Day 1; five players bought back in whilst five have decided to think about buying in for Day 2. Daniel Negreanu on the other hand was the only player to buy in twice on Day 1 and bust twice, with him now confirming he will buy-in for a third time on Day 2.
Last year started the year spending $200k on the first Super High Roller of the year this year will be a $300k hit.3rd bullet in the morning

Among those that fell out of the event on Day 1 and are thinking about possibly buying back in for the start of Day 2 include 2013 WSOP Main Event winner Ryan Riess, Mike Watson, John Juanda and PokerStars Team Pro Bertrand Grospellier.

Busted 100k a little while ago. Leaning towards not rebuying.

Those remaining 40 will be back on the felt later tonight for Day 2 of the event and they will possibly be joined by some of the eliminated players or perhaps even some new faces. We will follow all of the action so be sure to catch up with our report on Day 2 tomorrow.
