Halfrek becomes new OPOY leader

Full Tilt Poker competitor Halfrek has topped Card Player's online player of the year (OPOY) table for the first time.

The star's victory at event 21 of FTOPS VIII earned him 1,200 points, which catapulted him into first place ahead of reigning champion Isaac Baron and Brian Hawkins.

He has a comfortable lead at the top with a total of 3,992 - a 446-point advantage over Baron, who is just ten ahead of Hawkins.

No other contenders scored well at the event, although poker enthusiasts may be interested to hear a player by the name of philivey567 finished fourth.

It is not known who is behind the new internet alias, but his poker skills have been highly praised and it is felt in many circles that he may be a top player hiding under a new identity.

He is currently 663rd in the OPOY race and, on the strength of his weekend performance, could be one to watch for the future.
