Saturday 24th May 2008 PokerStars Hits Macau With Permanent Poker Room
While it will probably surprise many in the industry, PokerStars has announced the opening of the region's first permanent Poker room. Complete with 25 individual tables the Poker room will be able to house 250 players in one sitting. To help launch the new facility PokerStars has announced a charity relief game for those who suffered in the recent earthquake.
The prize in the charity event is HKD$150,000 and a seat at this September’s APPT Macau 6 day tournament which starts on 1st September. While it will depend how many players enter the charity event, a large donation will be made to the earthquake appeal at a time when money is desperately needed.
It is interesting to see that even though Macau has taken on the mantle of casino capital of the world, this will be the area’s first permanent Poker room. There have been many tournaments held in the region but they have normally been held in one of the many hotels and packed up and moved on when the tournament finished.
There are real hopes that the new Poker room will have a major impact on the Macau region, with many comparing the potential to that seen when Chris Moneymaker took the 2003 WSOP and the US went Poker crazy.
