Royal Hold'em permitted in Nevada

A new form of Texas hold'em known as royal hold'em was approved for casino play by the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) last week.

It is hoped that the variant will provide gamblers with a faster version of the classic game due to only the top cards - tens to aces - being used in the deck.

Royal Hold'em is for two to six players and will have a limit, but will otherwise follow the betting procedures and rules used in traditional Texas hold'em.

It is thought that the higher cards will encourage more betting and less folding.

Poker pro Scott Fischman commented on the new variation: "A lot of hands are won on the last card dealt and a royal flush or a bad beat hand can happen with the turn of a card. It's a hot game."

Developed and marketed by Las Vegas firm New Poker, the game is the second the company has had successfully approved by the NGC, the first of which was No River Hold'em where players are dealt three cards instead of two.
