Records broken at WSOP $1,500 no-limit hold'em

This year's World Series of Poker (WSOP) broke its first record when an unprecedented 55 bracelet events were announced and three days in, two more have been broken.

The number of players this year is significantly more than last, with a record 3,929 players competing in the $1,500 (£750) no-limit hold'em event, over 800 more than in 2007, according to PokerListings.

Prize money this year will also break records with its $5,363,085 prize pool, of which the winner is expected to claim over $830,000 in cash.

Among the thousands who entered were a large number of poker pros, such as Jennifer Harman, Scott Ngyuen, Chris Ferguson, Carlos Mortensen, Jeremy Roenick, Isabelle Mercier and Maria Ho.

At the WSOP last year, Ciaran O'Leary walked away victorious with $727,012 in the $1,500 no-limit hold'em tournament, while the main event was won by Jerry Yang who took a massive $8,250,000 in winnings as well as a gold bracelet.
