Medic takes first WSOP 2008 bracelet

The first bracelet of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2008 went to Nenad Medic on Sunday in the $10,000 (£5,000) pot-limit hold'em world championship.

Serbia-born, Canadian-raised poker pro takes home $794,112 in winnings, boosting his career earnings to $3,654,183.

However, his winnings from the WSOP this year may increase as the Big Serb prepares to enter his next tournament tomorrow - the $5,000 mixed hold'em (limit/no-limit) event.

The final table on Sunday went down to Mike Sexton, Kathy Liebert, Andy Bloch who went out in that order and the eventual winner, Medic.

He retained his two-to-one chip advantage after knocking out Liebert with three queens to overcome Bloch in the heads-up.

Last year, the main event was won by Jerry Yang who entered through a $225 satellite tournament and walked away with over $8 million, ten per cent of which was pledged to charity.
