Event 11 At WSOP - Philip Tom Beats Greg Mueller

As the pressure and the media coverage continues to increase at the WSOP event we are seeing more and more amateur players coming to the fore, putting many of the professionals in the shade. Philip Tom, a 55 year old financial advisor and investor from Las Vegas, is the latest to make the jump from unknown to superstar. He took on and beat Greg Mueller in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout playoff, leaving Mueller to curse his luck yet again with another second placed finish. Is he ever going to bag himself one of the coveted bracelets?<br /> <br /> While Tom is not a professional Poke player, this is the second time that he has tasted success against Mueller within a year. Even though this particular event was a lot more important than the one last year, it seems that Tom used his experience of playing against Mueller to the full.<br /> <br /> Tom has an interesting strategy which many new up and coming Poker players could learn from, taking the cautious approach and ‘playing the percentages’ where nothing obvious was on. The strategy seems to have worked a treat this time and he goes home with a cheque for $477,990 in his back pocket!
