2008 WSOP Event 29 - Step Up John Phan

As the 2008 WSOP rolls on picking up more speed and more audience numbers, there was an exciting game to finish event 29. The £3,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament attracted a very large number of entrants with over 700 sitting down as the event began. While it was not billed as the main event of the day, the emergence of ex-Vietnam national John Phan with a jackpot of $434,789 was certainly the highlight of the day.<br /> <br /> The 33 year old Poker player resides from Stockton, CA and has been a fulltime profession for about 12 years. While he also gets to keep his own WSOP gold bracelet after winning this event, it seems that maybe it was meant to be. Phan has seen second place finishes at the WSOP 2006 and 2007 not to mention a fourth place finish back in 2005. It may have taken him some time but finally he has made it to the prize pot and the acclaim which goes with a WSOP title.<br /> <br /> Some players seem destined to win at WSOP while others seem to give up when the going gets tough. In reality there is not an awful lot which separates the best players from the superstars, just the nerve to carry on and not throw in the towel.
