World Series of Poker Sees Rich Pickings For Pros

Texas Hold’em is the most popular form of poker in the world, especially in tournament format. This is why so many amateurs win the big Hold’em events at the WSOP – scores of poor-to-mediocre players who get lucky and also some good unknowns mean the odds of a professional winning a bracelet are poor.

Dario Minieri and John ‘Razor’ Phan defied those odds, each winning s WSOP bracelet and adding to their already not-inconsiderable tournament winnings.

Minieri is a Full Tilt pro and a successful young player. He took the bracelet and $528k in the No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event, a form of the game with only six players to a table which results in more dramatic, aggressive play. His QQ held against KT when all-in pre-flop and he got all the chips.

Phan has over $1.1m in tournament earnings now, largely helped by the $434k he received for winning the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em, in which his A9 rivered an unnecessary but helpful A against Johnny Neckar’s QJ on a K784 board when all in pre-flop.
