WSOP Has Gone Truly Global

Once seen as the possession of the US poker industry it seems as though WSOP has finally cracked the worldwide market in a big way. It has been announced that of the 6,844 players in this year’s main event, a record number are from outside of the US. In summary there are players from over 72 different countries around the globe as well as players from each and every State in the US. So what next?

WSOP is a legend in the poker industry and while money has poured into other ventures to try and claim the top spot, the history and size of the event has seen it push further away from the competition if anything. The purchase of the WSOP brand by Harrah’s has to go down as one of the best deals of all time, although it must also be recognised that the group has done a great deal to build on the early solid foundations of the name and reputation. What is WSOP worth now?

WSOP is one of those brand names which is near impossible to value, and besides that, where would you start? There is nothing quite like WSOP and it looks like it has just entered a new growth phase.
