Phan hunts another major poker title

John Phan is in line to win his third major poker title inside a month.

The Razor picked up two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets in June and is in a good position to add a World Poker Tour (WPT) trophy to his 2008 haul in the Bellagio Cup IV main event.

Phan is third overall in the chip count and is not too far away from the leaders Mike Watson and David Benyamine, according provisional estimates from the WPT website.

Benyamine has also proven himself to be in good form recently, picking up his first WSOP title just a few weeks ago.

Both competitors were strong contenders in the WSOP player of the year race.

Joining the top three for the six-man final table are Luke Staudenmaier, Ralph Perry and Gabriel Thaler.

With the exception of Benyamine, Perry is the only other person left in the field to have won a WPT title before.
