WSOP 2008 Hits The Screens With A Bang

Now that the starter is over for WSOP 2008, with millions waiting for the main course, the ESPN television network has begun to show highlights from the early stages. The event so far has been nothing but a success with over $180 million pledged in prize money and 58,000 competitors showing up for the event. But will it be as successful on TV?<br /> <br /> Ultimately it has been forecast that the final stages of the WSOP event will be beamed to 300 million people around the world, bringing Poker to the masses in the most direct way possible. The TV companies are already rubbing their hands with glee at the forecast advertising turnover they can expect for the tournament repeats and final alone.<br /> <br /> Poker is not just a game now, it really is an industry and the beauty is that in principle the game is simple, even if in practice it is a little more complicated. Many players new to the scene are seeing literally millions of dollars floating around in prize money, tempting vast numbers to aim for the skies. Poker is a game in which anyone can be successful if they put the effort in, it is also a sport which is very much dominated by dreamers, hopping to land that big win one day.
