Kamberis bursts into OPOY contention

Alex Kamberis, known in internet circles as AJKHoosier1, has rocketed up Card Player's online player of the year (OPOY) table to take third position.

The professional won a large number of points when he finished second in a $1 million guarantee tournament on Full Tilt Poker on Sunday.

This took his total to 4,272 points, which leaves him 640 behind leader Brian "SNo0oWMAN" Hawkins and 334 adrift of Halfrek.

Following Kamberis into the top five was Jason "Taknapotin" Somerville, who secured big points of his own on PokerStars.

His victory in the Sunday Second Chance tournament was enough to put him in fourth position with 3,932 points.

Philip "USCPhildo" Collins has dropped down to fifth place.

The online tournaments have come alive in recent days as players return their focus to the internet following the conclusion of the World Series of Poker.

Reigning champion Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron was not able to compete at the tournament extravaganza because he did not turn 21 until it finished.

However, he failed to improve his position in the OPOY race during the six weeks it lasted.
