Hellmuth to include Aussie Millions in COTY race

The Aussie Millions will now sit alongside some of the biggest tournaments in poker as an event which counts towards the points totals of players bidding to win Phil Hellmuth's Champion of the Year (COTY) prize.

Hellmuth revealed in his Card Player column this week that he now considers the tournament to be prestigious enough to sit alongside some of the other eligible events, which include legs of the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker competitions.

"With the preponderance of great players that attended the main event in Melbourne, Australia the last two years, should this event count in the COTY award? My thinking is yes," the Poker Brat wrote.

Many highly regarded players have entered the Melbourne tournament over the years, with some of them walking away with big money prizes.

Erik Seidel, Shannon Shorr, Nenad Medic and Kristy Gazes have all reached final tables in the event.
