Monday 28th July 2008 PokerStars Increase Tournament Prizes
PokerStars, the world’s largest and most popular online poker site, are famed (among other things) for their massive Sunday tournaments. The Sunday Million is a staggering $1,000,000 guaranteed tournament that regularly exceeds the huge prize promise and once topped $2,000,000.
In light of this popularity, PokerStars have pledged to permanently increase the guarantee of the Sunday Million to $1,500,000. A name-change to the Sunday Million-and-a-Half is not planned, however.
As well as these increases, a series of further prize swellings has been announced. Their weekly $200+$15 H.O.R.S.E. (Hold ‘em, Omaha 8, Razz, Stud and Stud 8) tournament now has a guarantee of $50,000. The Sunday Warm-Up, a smaller preclude to the main Sunday Million, has shot up from $500,000 to $750,000. Their Super Tuesday tournament will now be a guaranteed $300,000 prize pool and the weekly Pot Limit Omaha event will be worth a total of $20,000 at least.
PokerStars have also recently introduced a new welcome bonus and often run a series of promotions.
