Channing: I got lucky at the Irish Poker Open

Neil Channing has suggested that he could have gone home early on more than one occasion during the Irish Poker Open this year had the cards not fallen in his favour.

The Englishman, who moved his career live tournament winnings past the $1 million mark with the victory, suggested to Poker News that even though he played well, without good luck he may not have been able to triumph.

"I got lucky against two people, I raised and pot-committed myself and both times I was behind and both times I hit," he remarked.

Channing is a strong contender for Card Player's player of the year (POY) award, currently lying in 55th place overall.

As well as the Irish Poker Open win, he also earned a lot of points for finishing second at the PartyPoker.com World Open IV.

He was defeated in the heads-up by Marty Smyth, who is 33rd in the POY race.
