LAPT glory for Espinar

Jose Miguel Espinar of Spain continued Europe's dominance of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) with victory in Uruguay on Sunday.

Dutch player Julien Nuijten won the LAPT's inaugural event in Rio de Janeiro in May, with Hungary's Valdemar Kwaysser notching up another title for the European contingent in San Jose later the same month.

It looked possible that an American could lift an LAPT trophy for the first time ahead of the final table, with eight of the last nine hailing from the North and South continents.

But Espinar denied them their opportunity, eventually defeating Costa Rican Alex Brenes in the heads-up to win the event and the $241,735 first-place prize.

Italy's Ferrero Fulvio was the next highest ranked European competitor, going to the rail in 13th position. Mia Dac Liu of the UK was only other player from the continent to land in the money, going home in 27th place.
