GUKPT victory for Trickett

Sam Trickett picked up more than £100,000 and a new record over the weekend with his victory in leg six of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT).

In defeating David LaRonde in the heads-up, the 22-year-old earned £106,050 and the title of the youngest competitor ever to take down a GUKPT event.

Few had heard of Trickett before the tournament got underway, but he now stands alongside the likes of Julian Thew, Jeff Kimber and Mark Goodwin as a winner of a 2008 GUKPT title.

James Mitchell followed LaRonde in third place, with Martin Jarvis and Martin Green preceding him to the rail.

Peter Arrigoni was sixth, ahead of dart player Wayne Mardle. Stuart Rutter and Andreas Mihail finished in eighth and ninth respectively.

The result made no difference to the GUKPT leaderboard, which Nik Persaud continues to rule ahead of Goodwin and Thew.

However, it may make a slight difference to Card Player's player of the year rankings in which Trickett was placed in 255th before the competition began.
