Monday 1st September 2008 John Phan Takes Down Legends Of Poker Championship
International poker pro John ‘Razor’ Phan, recently the winner of two WSOP bracelets in 2008, has once again taken down a major tournament – this time for over $1,000,000.
In the 2008 World Series of Poker, Phan won the $3,000 No Limit Hold ‘em event for $439k and the $5,000 2-7 Triple Draw event for $151k. Now these last three victories take his total tournament earnings to $5.3m – nice work if you can get it.
Heads-up was a rollercoaster ride, with both Phan and eventual runner-up Amit Makhijah played intensely skilled poker. Phan pulled ahead with a massive four-to-one chip lead but amazingly Makhijah pulled back to reclaim the lead. Eventually, though, Makhijah found himself coming up short, albeit netting $563,720 for his efforts.
