Thursday 4th September 2008 In Dublins Fair City Where The Girls Are So Pretty
Bluff Europe Magazine has been doing the rounds again looking for Europe’s poker capital and this year the lucky winner of the European Poker Capital 2008 is.....Dublin. While the competition was intense and the voting was very close it was Dublin that pipped last year’s winner London to the post. Also rans in this year’s event were Vienna, Amsterdam and Barcelona but the strength of the competition shows that the European poker market is going through something of a growth phase.

While there were seemingly a number of factors which ensured that Dublin bagged the crown it seems as though the steady growth in grassroots poker in the city is what made it stand out for the judges. This and the fact there is a growing selection of poker rooms to choose from and Dublin is also the home of the Irish Open poker tournament.
It will be interesting to see if the new crown helps to push the profile of Dublin still higher as competition among the major European cities continues to grown. Poker went through something of a quiet patch after the US debacle but of late we have seen a major resurgence, one which seems set to go on for some time yet!
