'Credit crunch not affecting poker players yet'

The global credit crunch is not yet affecting the amount of tournaments poker enthusiasts can play.

At least that is the opinion of PokerPlayer magazine editor-in-chief Dave Woods, who thinks that the economic crisis will have an effect on the game at "some point".

He claims that "everything" will be influenced in some way by the credit crunch - and poker is no different.

Commenting further, Mr Woods said: "The high-end buy-ins will be the least affected because a lot of players actually get brought into these events by sponsors anyway."

He added that there are also "a lot" of players, who qualify for poker events through online satellite tournaments.

The success of this year's World Series of Poker indicates that the card game continues to be a lucrative business.

Organisers of the competition announced in July that the 2008 event was the largest and richest in its 39-year history.
