APT 'could be on a par' with EPT, WPT

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has the potential to one day be considered "on a par" with the more established European Poker Tour (EPT) and World Poker Tour (WPT), according to an industry magazine editor.

Dave Woods, who edits the PokerPlayer publication, said that the recently created Tour - that takes place in locations such as Macau and the Philippines - can garner a similar reputation to those events that have been running for a number of years.

However, he stated that it is unlikely the APT will be able to compete with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in terms of prestige.

The WSOP is considered to be the official poker world championships and "stands on its own" as the "most prestigious" card game tournament there is.

Earlier this year, organisers of the WSOP claimed that they had overseen the most lucrative tournament in its 39-year history.
