Editor predicts online poker player power

Online poker players could be the "players to watch out for" on this season's European Poker Tour (EPT).

That is the view of InsidePoker magazine editor Alan Bowden, who stated that many of the game's rising stars are effectively "young kids" who play on the internet.

Season five of the EPT gets underway in Barcelona today and online poker players could be a "key component" to the event, he added.

"There are 18 or 19-year-old guys who qualified online who dedicate their whole lives to playing poker for ten hours and constantly improving their game online," Mr Bowden remarked.

Money and player numbers have steadily increased every season of the EPT so far.

Season two of the Tour attracted just over 2,000 poker players and a €9.8 million (£7.9 million) prize pool, while this grew to 3,481 and €19.6 million in season three.

Last season had almost double the cash pot again and nearly 6,000 players.
