Congress takes step towards legalised online poker in the US

In a move which has surprised many it was announced that a bill will be going through Congress over the next few days which could see online poker in the US back alive a kicking over the next few months. The move will see the ‘Payments System Protection Act’ come into law and replace the earlier Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 which pulled the plug on online poker in the US and gave the traditional casino market a major boost.<br /> <br /> It seems as though the US authorities have finally realised what has been common knowledge for some time, that US residents are actually already using overseas websites to beat the ban. Whether the new Bill is aimed at giving power back to poker players or a way to entice yet more income from the US economy remains to be seen, but many major online poker companies are holding their breath.<br /> <br /> This move has been a long time coming for many although we have yet to see details of the proposed regulation which will rule the online gambling arena. Will it be too tough? Will it allow online companies to hit the US? Or will there be some form of taxation payment to the US authorities for those trading within its boundaries?
