Who blew open the Absolute Poker and UltimateBet scandal?

While the investigation into the alleged frauds at Absolute Poker and UltimateBet has been ongoing for some time, many people were a little confused as to how the problem was traced and who actually blew open the scandal. It now appears that far reaching detective work by an Australian poker player had found something which the authorities could not see, or the two companies involved.

Michael Josem is rumoured to have analysed the poker hand history data for the Absolute Poker and UltimateBet sites and found that some players were literally making money too quickly. While poker may officially have been made a sport in some areas of the world, there is still some luck as to the hands that you are dealt. There are also internal guidelines as to how often you might ‘expect’ a player to win in real life.

By analysing the data the player accounts in question were noted and internal investigations found that members of staff had been using holes in the online security to monitor other player hands as they were at the table. In affect everyone else was playing blind but the alleged fraudsters were adjusting their bets and their hands according to what they could see. The total cost of these alleged frauds is expected to top US$100m!
