Finally a poker bill arrives at the Senate

It has been a long time coming, indeed many thought the day would never come, but we have seen the emergence of a new and potentially ground breaking bill at the Senate. Robert Menendez has introduced what is known as S B 3616, the Internet Skill Games Licensing and Control Act of 2008 which would allow poker and other skill based games to be regulated in the US. This would then open the way for internet sites to remerge from the shadows, under potentially heavy regulation, and begin trading with US customers again.

As you might have guessed, the bill has been applauded by the likes of the Poker Players Alliance which has spent masses of money trying to change the 2006 bill which affectively cut off the source of finance for online poker sites. There is still a long way to go with regards to the bill and the reintroduction of online poker but finally there seems to be some movement in the right direction.

However, those who are already making plans for a hit on the US should hold back because as we have seen over the last few days it is nearly impossible to predict how votes in Congress and the Senate will go!
