Pros hand out tips in Dublin

Poker enthusiasts in Ireland will have the opportunity to pick up tips from some World Series of Poker (WSOP) veterans this week.

BoylePoker.com is expecting one of the biggest fields ever seen in Europe for its 2008 International Poker Open, which takes place at Dublin's Regency Airport Hotel from October 17th to 19th.

Its €135 (£107) buy-in means that the event is within the reach of amateurs, who can compete against professionals Neil Channing, Ian Frazer and Surinder Sunar, as well as sports stars Ken Doherty and Richie Power.

Before they cross swords with the experienced tournament players, those amateurs will be able to take advantage of two master classes.

Andy Black, who made the last nine of the WSOP main event in 2005, will stage a workshop on winning strategies on Friday, with 1999 WSOP finalist Padraig Parkinson joining reigning pot-limit Omaha world champion Marty Smyth to hand out tips on final table play the following day.

Last year's International Poker Open was won by Irishman Colin King.
