Grospellier wins WPT event in Las Vegas

French poker pro Bertrand Grospellier is over $1.4 million (£916,890) better off after taking down the Festa Al Lago tournament at the Bellagio yesterday.

Nicknamed 'ElkY' from his days as an online player, the final-day chip leader defeated Nam Le in heads-up play to capture his first World Poker Tour (WPT) title at the Las Vegas casino.

The victory means Grospellier joins Roland de Wolfe and Gavin Griffin as the only players to have won events on both the WPT and the European Poker Tour.

His reward for first place was $1,411,015, while Le took home $943,215 and moves into tenth spot on the all-time WPT money list with $3,084,273.

Third-placed Odie Dardon pocketed $506,245 and Nenad Medic received $373,010 for coming fourth.

In January this year, Grospellier won $200,000 when he came first at the EPT's PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure.

He has also racked up six cash finishes at the World Series of Poker.
