Online poker continues to out perform offline casino operations

Just a couple of years ago when the US authorities banned online poker in the country it was the turn of the offline casinos to take the lead and take the industry forward. However, over the last 12 months we have seen a major shakeup of the industry which has seen offline casino operations struggling from rising costs and reduced attendance numbers. Indeed we have also seen the introduction of a number of smoking bans just to cap the lot!

During this period online poker has made a real push and the results coming out of the online sector are far more impressive than traditional casino companies. Online poker is back on the map again and seems to be refreshed and regenerated after its time out of the headlines. So what has brought on this resurgence?

There are two main factors which are the increasing popularity of events such as WSOP and the fact that the US authorities are seriously considering lifting the ban on online poker in the short to medium term. Whether they know they are fighting a losing battle or need the extra income that some kind of regulation may bring is unknown, but the signs are getting better.
