Can you learn poker from an instruction manual?

As the online poker revolution continues to sweep around the world many people are looking at ways to learn the fundamentals and strategies involved in this highly technical and highly skilled game. We have seen a number of new instruction manuals released, and various websites spring up, and if the trend on player numbers continues this can only increase. But can you learn poker from a book? There is no doubt that it is possible for those looking at poker to learn the basic facts, best hands and potential strategies from online or off-line manuals but to be really successful at poker you need to have an inbuilt understanding and natural ability to play the game. Very few players ever reach this level and there is a feeling that the final few percent which makes a good player into a great player cannot be taught. So have you got what it takes to hit the big time? Can you take the pressure of a million-dollar card? More and more people believe that they have what it takes to hit the big time but whether they will actually make it is very much up for debate. Poker is difficult at the best of times but against those who have the nerve to turn over a card for a million dollars you really need to believe in yourself or have the best poker face that anybody has ever seen.
