WSOP down to last two after first day of drama

After a day of high drama at the WSOP 2008 main table it will now be left down to Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate to fight it out for the $10 million first prize. While Dennis Phillips had initially come into the final stages of the tournament as a firm favourite he lost his way somewhat in the early hands and took a disastrous hit which saw 25% of the total chips on play paid out - taking away 2/3rds of his stackpile.<br /> <br /> The first player to fall after more than four hours was Craig Marquis although he was quickly followed by Kelly Kim who had been the favourite to leave the table first. Next on the hit list to exit the tournament was David "Chino" Rheem who was finally beaten by the on form Peter Eastgate. The next player to leave the table was Darus Suharto who went out just after the dinner break.<br /> <br /> With a $3 million bounty in his pocket Scott Montgomery fell in fifth place although he goes home a lot wealthier than when he arrived. With Dennis Phillips fighting to recover from his early hits he battled valiantly to survive the next faller who was Ylon Schwartz. When Dennis Phillips finally fell in third place we had Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate left to battle out for the title.
