WSOP final table down to two

The winner of the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) will be decided in Las Vegas tomorrow (November 11th).

Just two of the nine players who made the final table of the main event remain - Ivan Demidov of Russia and Denmark's Peter Eastgate.

Dennis Phillips, an amateur player from St Louis, was eliminated in third place early today, pocketing $4.5 million (£2.88 million) and leaving Demidov and Eastgate to battle it out for the $9 million first prize.

Eastgate - who at 22 would become the youngest ever WSOP main event winner if he manages to defeat Demidov in heads-up play - holds the chip lead with 79.5 million, while his opponent has 57.7 millon.

Ylon Schwartz, a 38-year-old former chess pro from New York, exited the tournament at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in fourth place after Eastgate caught him in a bluff.

Schwartz won $3.77 million for his performance at the final table, while Canada's Scott Montgomery left with $3.1 million after being eliminated in fifth.

Phil Hellmuth holds the current record for the youngest ever main event winner - he beat Johnny Chan as a 24-year-old in 1989.
