Peter Eastgate takes the WSOP 2008 crown

Peter Eastgate, the 22-year-old Danish poker player, became the youngest ever winner of the WSOP as he took the WSOP 2008 title after a nailbiting heads up with Ivan Demidov. This latest tournament has perhaps been the best ever with a number of players taking massive gambles to bring themselves back from potential oblivion. Going into the final heads up, Peter Eastgate was 79.5 million chips to 21.775 million down and the clever money seemed to be on Russian star Ivan Demidov. However, Eastgate managed to turn it around with a series of cool and very very lucrative hands which saw him race to 120.55 million chips against his opponents 16.35 million chips, something of a major turnaround from the initial chip count. Then, 104 hands later the young Dane finally blew out the Russian and stepped forward to collect his crown. Phil Helmuth hand formerly held the record for the youngest winner of a WSOP main table title although that 19 year record has now been smashed. So what next for Peter Eastgate? As Eastgate returns home with a cheque for over $9 million the world is literally as his oyster and he is sure to receive massive attention over the next few weeks.
