Peter Eastgate Crowned Youngest WSOP Champion

Danish poker player Peter Eastgate defeated the famous ‘November Nine’ yesterday to be crowned the youngest ever WSOP Main Event champion and winning $9m in the process. Three months since the final table was decided and American Dennis Phillips held the most chips as play started, with Russian sensation and third-place WSOPE Main Event finisher Ivan Demidov close behind. The Russian soon took the chip lead and Phillips was left floundering. Surprisingly it wasn’t shortstack Kelly Kim who was eliminated first. That dubious honour went to Craig Marquis, followed by Kim; ‘Chino’ Rheem; Darius Suharto; Scott Montgomery and Ylon Schwartz. At the final hurdle, only the former chip leader Phillips, Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate remained. Phillips timed a bluff badly and Eastgate’s flopped set held up to eliminate him in third which paved the way for a dramatic heads-up match between the Dane and Russian in which the chip lead swung to and fro several times. Eventually though, the cards simply ran cold for Demidov and he wound up second, although $5m richer. Bluff Europe.com spoke with both of the players after the tournament and got an exclusive video interview which was added to their website hours after the tournament finished.
