Is poker finally an open club now?

News that much of the merchandise from WSOP 2008 will be auctioned off over the next few weeks has caught the attention of many in the industry. For so many years poker was the club of the rich and famous and the wider population among other areas of society they never really got the chance to show their skills. The sale of the final table merchandise of WSOP 2000 is being seen by many as the point at which the industry moved over to more of an open shop.

Casinos are now open to the general public around the world with places such as the UK possibly the slowest to react, but now catching up with regards to laws and regulations. The move has been instigated by the fact online poker and online casinos have snatched away vast elements of the off-line casino industry and they need to fight back.

The many poker associations around the world are now run on clearly defined commercial terms and the industry itself is not only becoming more aware to the general public but is actually more accessible than ever before. However, online poker is increasing in popularity at a significantly higher rate than off-line casinos.
