Cereus Poker Sites Leave Kentucky

Troubled sister online poker sites AbsolutePoker.com and UltimateBet.com have sent e-mails to players informing them that they will be stopped from competing on the domains if they reside in Kentucky. Owned by Canadian firm Tokwiro Enterprises and licensed by the aboriginal Kahnawake Gaming Commission, the two sites have joined other online poker networks including Cake Poker, Merge Poker and Microgaming Poker in excluding residents of the southern American state. They recently joined forces under the Cereus Poker moniker in order to offer players more action, tournaments and faster-growing bad beat jackpots. “We regret to inform you that, effective immediately, UltimateBet.com is no longer available to Kentucky residents,” read the e-mail sent to players. ”This means that you will not be able to access our website and software from within the state boundaries of Kentucky. You can access your account balance and initiate withdrawals by visiting the UltimateBet.com cashier. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at Support@UltimateBet.com. We thank you for being a valued member of the UltimateBet community.” Although no official announcement was made by Tokwiro, the decision by the two sites has been made almost certainly due to the ongoing legal dispute playing itself out in the courts over whether the state has the right to confiscate domain names offering online gambling services to its citizens. Following a civil case initiated by Governor Steve Beshear in October, Judge Thomas Wingate from the Franklin Circuit Court ruled that the state could seize domains if they had not shown efforts to block Kentucky residents. Although the case was stayed and is currently on appeal until it is heard by Court of Appeals Judges on December 12, Tokwiro’s recent announcement could be designed to keep the sites out of any future trouble.
