Rangers keeper Allan McGregor loses £50,000 in nightclub venture

Ibrox star Allan McGregor was £50,000 worse off yesterday after his nightclub venture with Scotland's only professional poker player Tony Chessa came to an abrupt end. The nightclub in Greenock has been forced to close with the losses mounting and business struggling. This is a disaster for Tony Chessa who has literally lost everything and been forced to move back in with his parents in the short term.

The situation for Allan McGregor is not quite as bad as he earns £20,000 a week from his job as a professional footballer. The Rangers keeper is well known on the poker circuit having been previously engaged to a Canadian poker star before a much-publicised separation. There had been hopes that between the two McGregor and Chessa could use their showbiz and sports connections to increase business at the club but for whatever reasons this did not materialise.

Whether Tony Chessa will now return to the poker scene after retiring to look after the club remains to be seen, but his claims of earning in excess of £100,000 a year on the tables have been disputed by many in the business. Poker is very popular in Scotland and an increasing fashion amongst the well paid sports stars in the premiership.
