Is the switch from off-line poker to online poker a breeze for everyone?

As more and more people look to switch from off-line poker to online poker there is a growing debate as to whether a natural off-line poker player can switch online with no problems. While the basic skills required are the same, i.e. an understanding of the game in great depth, many off-line players had depended upon viewing the face of their opponents and trying to read their next move.

Online poker is a totally different style and culture with players needing to read opponents only via the speed and type of hands they seem willing to play. At first glance it may seem difficult to read an online opponent, but if you study their moves and their actions, as well as their resulting hands, there are patterns which you can see especially in the more recent recruits to the online market.

Many of the older more mature online poker players are able to hide their twitches and their habits by consciously making moves which will fool opponents. This is a skill which could prove invaluable in the long run even if it results in number of short-term hits. If ever there was a time to take a short-term hit to bamboozle your opponents, online poker may well offer this opportunity.
